Yakima Roof Rack Installation - 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, we're going to be test fitting the Yakima Round Bar Roof Rack System, consisting of part numbers Y00408. These are the 48" round cross bars for the Yakima Roof Rack System.Part number Y00148, these are the sky line towers for the Yakima cross bars, particularly for fixed mounting points.Part number Y03536, these are the round bar SL adaptor kits for the baseline and skyline and timberline towers. And finally, part number Y00233, this is the landing pad for the fixed mounting points. The Yakima Round Bar Roof Rack System is great for carrying a wide variety of accessories on your roof, while freeing up space inside your Outlander Sport. It gives it a nice factory-style look thanks to the fixed mounting points, and it also takes out a lot of the hassle of having to measure out from center to center to make sure everything's just right like you would with other roof rack systems. While the round bar system is the most economical and one of the more sturdy roof rack systems offered by Yakima, it does have its downsides where you can't use t-track accessories with this and if you wanted to do that, you could upgrade to the Jet Stream roof rack bars. Also, as far as noise is concerned, with round bars you're going to be experiencing a little bit more of that. You can purchase fairings after-market which you can find on etrailer.com to cut down that wind noise and drag, or you can also upgrade to the aero style core bars which are also sold separately. Also, when you're finished using the roof rack system, these are easy to take off. Simply open up the front of the tower like you see there and that unlocks it and when you lift it out, comes with this plastic piece that you push that in place and now you can leave these in and they're ready for next time so you don't have to keep taking off and putting back on our fixed mounting points.Once we put it back down, you can see that there's this plastic knock out here. more

Today on our 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander we'll be test fitting the Thule AeroBlade Roof Rack System using load bars 53 inches in length, part number tharb53 and the Thule Rapid Crossroad Roof Mounted Railing Foot Pack, part number th450r. We went ahead and pre-assembled the foot pack to our load bars. Now we're ready to go ahead and place the first half of our roof rack on top of our side rails. Once we have the foot packs set on top of our side rails we'll go ahead and bring the rubber coated steel strap underneath each side rail. To make sure that we have the foot pack in the right location there's an arrow indicator on the foot pack that should be lined up with the center of our side rail. Now we want to make sure that the overhang on each side of our vehicle is identical. What Ill do is Ill measure to make sure that I have the same overhang on both the driver side and the passenger side of the Outlander. One of the things that we need to make sure is that these bars according to Thule's instructions need to be a minimum of 24 inches apart. more

We already have our roof rack assembly put together and now we are ready to mount it up on the vehicle. Since this vehicle already has factory raised side rails, we do not have to worry about any measurement for positioning our roof rack. We do need to note that Thule recommends a maximum crossbar spread of 45 inches. So we want to make sure that we do not exceed this amount. We will go ahead and place our assembly up on top of the roof rack at the front of the vehicle. When we position the front bar, we need to make sure that it is overhanging evenly from left to right. more

Today the crossbars are preassembled so we will now show you how they are installed on the vehicle. To begin we are going to mount the front crossbar. Three things that we need to make sure of when mounting the crossbar is that the crossbar is overhanging evenly from left to right. The triangle on the foot is centered on the side rail and the bar is perpendicular to the side rails. After the crossbar is in position, I will move back and forth to tighten down the feet, ensuring that the position does not move. Once the front bar is secure, we can move to the rear. more

Well set our front crossbar assembly up on our roof; we need to measure 4 back from the edge of the windshield weather strip to the leading edge of the Q Tower.
